Weidmuller opens new logistics center in Thuringia, Germany

The Detmold-based Weidmuller Group has officially opened its new logistics center in Hesselberg-Hainig. With the help of Weidmuller Logistics Center (WDC), this global electronic equipment and electrical connection company will further strengthen its sustainable strategy of localization of the industrial chain, and at the same time optimize the logistics operation process in China and Europe. The logistics center has been put into operation in February 2023.

With the completion and opening of WDC, Weidmuller has successfully completed the largest single investment project in the company's history. The new logistics center not far from Eisenach covers a total area of about 72,000 square meters, and the construction period is about two years. Through WDC, Weidmuller will significantly optimize its logistics operations and at the same time increase the sustainability of their operations. The state-of-the-art logistics center is located ten kilometers from the center of Thüringische Weidmuller GmbH (TWG). It is largely automated, offering end-to-end digital and flexibly networked delivery and customer service. "The requirements for logistics in the future will become more and more complex and changeable. With the forward-looking and innovative design of the logistics center, we have already met many future customer needs," said Volker Bibelhausen, Weidmuller's chief technology officer and spokesman for the board of directors. "In this way, we can provide better customer service and chart our future development course more flexibly and sustainably," he added.

Sustainability and cutting-edge technology

WDC creates over 80 new jobs

During the design of the WDC, Weidmuller combined cutting-edge logistics technology with sustainable building components. In addition to some green roofs, the center also integrates a powerful photovoltaic system and an energy-efficient heat pump. Overall, the new logistics center meets the company's strategic requirements for the localization of the sustainable industrial chain: In the Thuringian center, WDC establishes a central transshipment point for Weidmuller's products produced in Central Europe. Shorter transport and delivery routes could significantly reduce carbon emissions in the future. In addition, the logistics center will create more than 80 new jobs. Dr. Sebastian Durst, Chief Operating Officer of Weidmuller, emphasized the cutting-edge technology of the new logistics center: "Our new logistics center combines automation and digitalization, which brings us infinite possibilities to continue to provide high-standard, high-quality and efficient services. In the long run, we will completely revolutionize logistics operations."

The logistics center was officially opened

Recently, Weidmuller, headquartered in Detmold, presented its new logistics center to nearly 200 specially invited guests. The opening event was attended by Mr. Christian Blum (Mayor of Hesselberg-Hainich) and Mr. Andreas Krey (Chairman of the Management Board of the Thuringian Economic Development Board). Also present at the opening ceremony was Dr. Katja Böhler (Secretary of the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Sciences and Digital Society): "This investment by Weidmuller clearly demonstrates the enormous economic potential of the region and of Thuringia as a whole. It is great to see that Weidmuller continues to help shape a promising and sustainable future for the region."
